On 16 September, MITT held a tree planting activity at a state primary school at Nyaung Waing Village, located near the port. The activity involved 40 students and 50 MITT staff members. Two days before the event, MITT staff visited the school to remove bushes and prepare the land for the planting activity. Around 90 trees were planted along a 90-metre stretch of fence, including Mimusops, Poinciana and Eugenia trees.

MITT also organised a talk for staff members on extracting value from waste, organised by MITT’s safety committee together with the Myanmar Environment Institute. An environmental specialist from the Institute, Prof. Dr. Win Maung, spoke about the different types of waste and how to identify them and covered issues such as the impact of waste on social environments. Around 70 staff members attended the talk.
