A total of 75 PPC employees took part in a beach clean-up on 23 September that was organised by the Foundation for the Protection of the Sea, a non-profit organisation that has been hosting Panama’s national ocean month for the past 25 years.  The initiative aims to remove trash from both the shoreline and the water of beaches, rivers, lakes and streams. PPC employees helped to clean a five-kilometre stretch of beach near the port of Balboa, collecting around 800 pounds of trash, mostly consisting of plastic bags, bottles and aluminum cans.

Earlier in the month, PPC participated in a tree planting activity organised by the Panama Maritime Authority in the Camino de Cruces national park. The tree planting activity, in which 55 PPC employees participated, involved planting seedlings of native species to help mitigate the negative effects of climate change on the area.  The activity was part of larger initiative aimed at reforesting one million hectares of land by 2030.
